Social tipping points and adaptation limits in the context of systemic risk: Concepts, models and governance

Physical tipping points have gained a lot of attention in global and climate change research to understand the conditions for system transitions when it comes atmosphere biosphere. Social been framed as mechanisms socio-environmental systems, where small underlying elements or behavior actors triggers large non-linear response social system. With becoming more acute, is important know whether how societies can adapt. While related associated with positive negative outcomes, overstepping adaptation limits has linked adverse outcomes actors' values objectives are strongly compromised. Currently, evidence base limited, most discussion on risk conceptual anecdotal. This paper brings together three strands literature - points, systemic risks, which so far separate. Furthermore, we discuss methods models used illustrate dynamics context cascading risks at different scales beyond limits. We end suggesting that further needed identify crucial developing appropriate governance approaches.
